Berries by Lizzy Hardingham
All but the evergreen shed their skin with the snow
Dancing orbs litter our scene, for all England has ceased to grow
I wonder all day long how you stay so strong
The holly and ivy weather the storm
When nature is lifeless and dead- the berries live on
Silver maple and cottonwood, winter’s frost couldn’t abide
But holly and ivy, steadfast they stood. While all England was tucked up inside
I wonder all day long how you stay so strong
The holly and ivy weather the storm
When nature is lifeless and dead- the berries live on
Safe and sound ‘neath flickering flames we imitate the way that they glow
Hung around socks with embroidered names, for all England they put on a show
I wonder all day long how you stay so strong
The holly and ivy weather the storm
When nature is lifeless and dead- the berries live on
